Gardening history

Flower History: Hydrangeas The hydrangea was hidden in the secret gardens of Japan for hundreds of years, before it was discovered in 1776 by Swedish botanist Carl Peter Thunberg. He named it the viburnum macrophyllum or Large Leaved Viburnum. It was an unusual seedling, that produced a cylindrical flower head in stunning shades of pink, white, purple, and blue. A flower of this caliber had never before been seen by the western world.
